Genes Causing Anxiety in Patients with Too Much Protein Identified …

Would you believe there is a link between anxiety and our genetic material. Too much of a certain protein can cause many behavioral problems.

Making an immensely imperative disclosure, a recently conducted study, which was carried out by researchers from the Baylor College of Medicine, has revealed that the overexpression of two genes is mainly accountable for the majority of behavioural issues, apprehension and all anxiety- associated issues are linked to excess MeCP2 protein.

The genes, dubbed Crh (corticotropin-releasing hormone) and Oprm 1 (mu-opioid receptor MOR 1]), may well hold some sort of a relationship with the manner used for treating such sort of issues in patients having surplus protein.

As stated by the scientists involved in the study, MeCP2 is somewhat like a “Goldilocks” in the world of proteins. At the time when the protein is defective or is out of stock, girls generally tend to develop the neurological disorder termed as the “Rett Syndrome” early on in their life.

The excess of protein also leads to more newly discovered MeCP2 duplication syndrome that generally tends to affect boys more frequently than girls. Especially, boys who may become heir to the gene duplications mainly from their mothers or, in some rare cases, boys may even develop these genes now and again.

In either of the cases, social behavioural deficits and anxiety are characteristic of suffering from such an ailment, as well as with various other cognitive defects or motor issues for that matter.

While expressing his views in this regard, the first author of the study and an assistant professor of molecular and human genetics at BCM, Dr. Rodney Samaco, said: “We first identified the mouse model for MeCP2 duplication syndrome and then found people with the disorder in the clinic. We went back to the lab and found out that MeCP2 was indeed the major contributor to this phenotype in patients”.

However, the new study has now made it clear that surplus MeCP2 certainly holds the responsibility for neuropsychiatric symptoms.

If you think an excess of MeCP2 protein might be causing your anxiety, go to a doctor and run it by him. It doesn’t hurt to always try a new avenues. Who knows this might be your answer.

Laughter Proving To Be Best Medicine

Is laughter really the best medicine? More than a dozen people at the Dharma Room in Sioux Falls are convinced it is. They are practicing a yoga technique called laughter yoga.

“It is just fun. It feels good,” Jill Johnson said.

You’d be surprised to know, the group is laughing at absolutely nothing. The intentional laughter is coupled with yoga breathing techniques and is credited with lowering stress and improving mood.

Instructors Dan and Jill Johnson say this type of laughter offers six times more oxygen than regular breathing.

“It is scientifically proven the body doesn’t know the difference between a simulated laugh and a genuine, ‘Ha, ha.’ When you laugh you release chemicals that make you feel good. And that’s where the magic happens,” Dan said.

“It raises your endorphins. It helps with your pain level, it creates community instantly and it is contagious,” Jill said.

Have fun with your treatment. Laugh for no reason. Breathe and Laugh, it doesn’t get any better than that. Laugh the stress and anxiety away. We feel healthier, we are healthier.

Did you ever think laughter would be a treatment for many illnesses. I’m sure any illness can be combated with laughter. Chemicals are released into our bloodstream and we just feel better, just like that! SIOUX FALLS, SD – Bad health is no joke, but laughter yoga is proving to be effective for people suffering from a variety of illnesses. Mental Illness and Social Mobility

There is always information on mental illnesses and anxiety disorders. There also are so many opinions about how to help people with mental disorders.

Earlier today, I appeared on an hour-long radio program. One of my fellow guests was Scott Winship of Brookings, an expert on social mobility and social policy, and Jared Bernstein, a fellow at CBPP who also served as Vice President Joe Biden’s chief economic advisor.

At the end of the discussion, I strayed from the script to raise an issue that I consider salient to social mobility yet that rarely comes up in discussions of the issue. The host of the program seemed confused, and the topic was basically dropped, which is perhaps understandable given the time constraint. Bernstein, closing out the discussion, then suggested that people are uncomfortable talking about rising inequality. In my limited experience, academics and journalists are favorably disposed towards talking about income inequality, though of course this could reflect the media that I happen to consume and the social circles that I happen to travel in.

As Robert Whitaker reports in a recent book (which we’ve discussed in the recent past), the number of Americans disabled by mental illness has increased considerably in recent decades. A review essay by Marcia Angell recounts the alarming facts:

I think we need to reform how we diagnose and treat mental illness. No one way is always the right way, but we can get on the right track. Just helping others is always the right way to go.

Anxiety and Omega-3 Fatty Acids,Can THey Help?

Do you know that an anxiety disorder or panic disorder is ailing almost 20% of Americans. That is a very big number. Are you one of those 20%? Well if you are, there are many ways to deal with anxiety and panic. Look out there for something that works with you and for you, you’ll find the answer.

Anxiety is one of most the common neurological disorders, but it also is one of the most difficult to understand. Simply stated, anxiety is an apprehension of the future, especially about an upcoming challenging task. This is normal. What is not normal is when the reaction is significantly out of proportion to what might be expected. Over the years, a number of specific terms, such as generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, phobia, social anxiety disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, and separation anxiety disorder have emerged in an attempt to better categorize general anxiety. Any way you describe anxiety, it is a big problem with nearly 20% of Americans suffering from it, thus making anxiety the largest neurological disorder in the United States

(1). If anxiety is worrying about the future, then it has a fellow traveler, depression. Depression can be viewed as an over-reaction about regret associated with past events. Not surprisingly, almost an equal number of Americans suffer from this condition. This leads to the question: Is there a linkage between the two conditions? I believe the answer is yes and it may be caused by radical changes in the American diet in the past 40 years. These changes have resulted in what I term the Perfect Nutritional Storm

(2). The result is an increase in the levels of inflammation throughout the body and particularly in the brain.

Who would ever think that a healthy diet would lead to less anxiety and panic. Several studies have been done to check for the efficacy of this hypothesis.  You never know what can help your physical state as well as your mental state all in one swoop!

Your brain’s only protection is adequate levels of anti-inflammatory omega-3s. By Dr. Barry Sears…

Can Chemicals In Our Foods And Drinks Cause Panic, Anxiety And Stress?

Have you ever been misdiagnosed?  It isn’t a pretty picture. Stress related health issues can be mental and physical.    See how one woman handled it.

Author, Liz Speirs had Panic Attacks, Anxiety, Claustrophobia, Agoraphobia and Stress for 29 years from the age of 11 years old!

She got fed up with the medical profession labelling her as a panic attack sufferer, offered medications and therapy every time she went to the doctor, even though she pleaded with them that she was not depressed or anxious and actually had panic attacks while watching television or was woken up from sleep with them.

The final straw was when she was crippled with a knee problem and was referred to a Neurologist, who just laughed when he said ‘What on earth have you been referred here for?’. Speirs said ‘I don’t know but I’ve got a good idea that because of my medical notes, I’ll never get a proper diagnosis for anything I’ve got – whether it is physical or mental!’

Go to your doctor if you think you need to.  Your body will let you know.  Be aware and take care of you.

Relieve Panic Attacks Now!

There are so many people who are suffering from panic attacks and anxiety. It is a great article, stating that, with simple techniques, you can get rid of a panic attack fast and easy.

Tragically, panic attacks affect people of all ages. If you don’t learn how to deal with panic attacks then they will continue and will probably get worse. The following article will teach you how to manage or even eliminate panic attacks.

Think about putting your experiences with panic attacks into writing. Begin a blog or employ some other method of public communication. Doing all of this is sure to ward of panic attacks.

Avoid drinking alcohol if you have anxiety problems. Because alcohol is a mood altering depressant, it can only harm you or temporarily delude you into thinking everything is okay. Panic attacks that are fueled with alcohol can quickly become dangerous. Many medications that may be prescribed to treat your panic attacks, cannot be consumed with alcohol and can have serious side effects if combined.

Is this something that you have attempted previously? Was the previous attempt successful? If you answer no, then begin thinking of other ways to help yourself this time.

Often times the anticipation of a panic attack can actually instigate one. To help minimize the frequency of attacks, you should stop worrying about having one. When you worry about these triggers, there’s a chance you may actually cause one. This is somewhat like the experience you will feel if a person is constantly recommending you not think about something. Pretty soon, that something is the only thing you are able to think about.

If you are formally diagnosed with an anxiety issue, you should be able to find the right way to treat it. The cause of your anxiety problem is an important thing to know when trying to solve it. If your panic attacks continue to get worse or don’t respond to treatment, consult your doctor or seek the help of a psychiatrist.

If you feel panic start to take control of your body, try to go with it instead of trying to fight it off. Realize that your feelings, although uncomfortable, are not permanent and will soon pass. If you want a panic attack to pass quickly, go with the flow and try to stay calm. Fighting against the attack can only make things worse.

One of the worse things you can do during a panic attack is to try to fight it off. Rather than resisting what is happening, just tell yourself steadily that the episode will pass momentarily. It helps to focus on something soothing, such as calm breathing, pleasant music or an activity that you enjoy. Actively fighting against a panic attack will just extend its duration.

If you go through panic attacks, it is important that you get the proper amount of sleep. By being sleep deprived you are more likely to suffer an attack, and be less likely to rationally address it. Aim for eight solid hours of shut-eye each night.

Meditation, incorporating deep breathing techniques, can empower you to fight your anxiety issues and panic attacks. Inhale, then exhale deeply and slowly 10 times in a row. Doing this brings much needed oxygen to the brain, but also allows your mind to focus on more than just the negative, anxious feelings.

Drinking alcohol isn’t the best way to stop your panic attacks.

It is a fact of life, some of us have to deal with panic attacks and anxiety. Learning how to live with it makes life so much easier.  Try some techniques and see you how you feel.
